Argos card

I bought a washing machine in july last year from argos so i signed up for an argos card to get the 7 months interest free thye were offering . Last night i paid off the balance and dont think i will ever use the card and its 36% interest rate. Can i just ask them to close the credit account and will that alter my credit file for the good or bad?

Hello, yes you could close the account and your credit files would be updated accordingly. If you have any existing credit cards with a relatively low balance to limit ratio I can't see that closing the Argos card would massively effect your credit record.

Its definitely not worth using it again at that interest rate, but it would depend how much other credit you have. If you have a lot of credit, close the card as too much available credit can be damaging. Conversely if you don't have much credit keep it open and use it be build your credit file with.

the apr is high but the 0% periods can be handy to use,especially to spread the cost of larger items,you could ask them to reduce the limit to reduce your credit avaliable
