Greasy Hair Misery.

I am in my thirties and since my late teens, I have suffered with greasy hair. Many years ago I used to use a product that I found in Boots (Yellow Shampoo with chinese writing- If anyone can remember it?) then head & shoulders brought out their citrus fresh for 'greasy hair' and it dealt with my problem.
For the last 3 months, after I wash my hair it terribly greasy. My hair at the ends is dry, but my scalp looks like I have run margarine through it :( Today I was getting ready to go out tonight. I washed my hair and went to style it. It was greasy and looked so bad. So bad that I asked my husband if we could leave going out, because it really did look dreadful. I have rewashed my hair but its made no difference.

Does anyone know of a product that will shift the grease please? I am feeling low and it does effect me.

When you wash your hair do you wash it once or twice? Are you rinsing properly? Do you use conditioner afterwards?

Do you switch out your shampoo on a regular basis?

I have a different shampoo I use once a week to strip out buildup from the shampoo I use every other day.

Is it worth using a clarifying shampoo for a while? They are (supposed to) remove the shampoo/product build up which could be making it feel oily (it does with mine).

Also, if it is that bad, maybe it's worth asking your GP if they can recommend something or do tests for things that might be causing it (or refer you to someone more specialised in this area). I'd say it was worth checking just in case, sounds like it's really interfering with your life.

I have greasy hair and had the same happen to me a few months ago. I washed it with my usual Elvive stuff but it felt all wrong and strandy as soon as I dried it. I tried another shampoo (can't remember which - probably Superdrug's own or something similar) and it was fine, but I was all ready to reach for the washing-up liquid to get it back to basics. I now only condition it every few washes, and then just the ends.

  • A lot of the shampoos now have added vitamins or oil to condition the hair, and I found it can make your hair look greasy. Try the Pantene Clarifying shampoo once or twice a week, - it works well, I find.
  • Have you tried Kerastase products? I alternate between Kerastase Bain Clarifiant and Cristalliste Bain Thick. It's not cheap but I have been washing my hair less that I used to and if you sign up for newsletters on FeelUnique.com or look fantastic you can get it a bit cheaper with discount codes.
  • Try Tea Tree shampoo.

  • I have never been able to use conditioners, because they amplify the grease and make my hair look slapped to my scalp.

And I wet/shampoo and the rinse for ages. If I shampoo more than once then that too makes the grease worse.

I managed it as best as I could for years, but the last few months have been terrible. It feels like margarine and looks slapped to my head.

I used a clarifying tresomme shampoo and that worked, but after a few washes, as usual it stopped working.
I will try out some of the brands mentioned, I will do anything to have non greasy hair. Thanks to all posters.

How about trying some dry shampoo like batiste.

I had a problem with greasy streaks in my hair.Someone on these boards recommended rinsing with Listerine original mouthwash and it completely cleared the grease. No idea how or why but so glad it did!
