Hi esalad,
While I can sympathise I suspect that only working 3 hours per week and it being a Sunday is probably why took the decision they did...
The extra training required would potentially cost them more than they would recoup by keeping you on and (I know from experience) that if you are struggling to pick something up then a time lapse of a week could easily lead to you forgetting it again.
Chalk it up to experience, if other colleagues have told you they still make occasional mistakes then it sounds like it is a more complicated process than you think so there is nothing to be ashamed of, water off a ducks back

The OP sounds a reasonable person, so I would expert the mistake could not have been something a little more training could not have sorted out.
If you need me to tell you want emotion is involved in sacking or not sacking someone then I'm not going to bother as clearly you would still not understand.
Instead of taking the time to comment on my post, why not try and offer the OP some advice.
I wouldn't waste your breath on 'BillJones' if I were you. He's had dozens of user names on MSE and they've all ended up getting PPRd. He's typical of the pondlife that hangs around the benefit and employment boards. He makes increasingly antagonistic posts, especially to new posters, until eventually the powers-that-be bin him. Of course he immediately comes back with another user name and it's back to the usual cycle.
Anyway he's made 201 posts in 15 days with his current incarnation which suggests to me that he doesn't do any more work than some of the people he takes great delight in sneering at.0 -

Yeah. At a (very large and well known) forum I moderate there's a member who keeps making anti-benefit (particularly JSA) posts. Can make several accounts made in a day, with up to 20+ posts using each account until they get banned. Trolls, eh?
Can't the moderators IP check accounts to discover dupes?0 -
We are all human, and the "billJones" of this World get off on trying to make others miserable, as do certain employers.
I know many people in the last ten years who have been dismissed for pretty minor errors, or trumped up reasons why they are not a team member.
I hope that the OP can move on and find something more suitable in a fairer working environment.0 -

cheers, he went on ignore a couple of days ago.
Sad some people feel their life is so empty they have to bring others down for them to feel good.
I do always wonder, how these people have the time, I have the time as I'm not working, they as you say are either unemployed too or my guess is old (not that all old people are like this) and feel that they are better than those claiming benefits, yet we all know back then things were a lot different to now, buying houses, selling for big profits etc final salary pensions, which we are paying the price for now, so they are no better than us. They just had it differently.0 -
Well I am saddened by what happened today. I was Pulled into the office after my shift at work and informed I was being given one weeks notice of dismissal.
Despite always being the first to arrive at work, doing relief cover at an hours notice and not going sick once I am out of the door.
My crime? Not getting my head round a confusing system of vat free offers and making a few mistakes in transactions.
It basically boils down to the company loosing a few quid on a few unintentional mistakes which I would have been happy to pay for if Id been asked and I would have been happy to take further training.
It seems good people count for nothing these days only money.
Hi Esalad,
My advice would be to write to them to appeal their decision to dismiss you, and also that they issued you with unpaid notice! All dismissals have the right to appeal, you just need to write a letter to them within a reasonable timescale and ask for your appeal to be heard. It seems that when they dismissed you, they didn't give you the opportunity of a meeting and a chance to explain? Perhaps that you also felt that you could do with a bit more training or a mentor/buddy at work to help you? I'm also guessing that this is the first that you have formally heard about these mistakes? That they didn't speak to you either formally or informally (but privately) before the day they called you in to dismiss you? To me this sounds quite unfair and out of process!
Is this a small company or large company? Although you cannot claim for unfair dismissal, you still have the right to be treated fairly and reasonably by your employer.[STRIKE]Family £400[/STRIKE] CC1 [STRIKE]£415[/STRIKE] Lloyds [STRIKE]£460[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Natwest£750[/STRIKE] £627.59 Tesco [STRIKE]£1880[/STRIKE] £1725 Grand total £2,352.59

With regard to the one week of notice, if they tell you that you do not have to attend work then they need to pay you in lieu of notice. Also you may have accrued a very small amount of holiday in the 3 months you have been there which you should asked to be paid for if not taken.
However if they ask you to work a week of notice and you decide not to show, then that is different and you wouldn't get paid (but you are entitled to any hols regardless)[STRIKE]Family £400[/STRIKE] CC1 [STRIKE]£415[/STRIKE] Lloyds [STRIKE]£460[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Natwest£750[/STRIKE] £627.59 Tesco [STRIKE]£1880[/STRIKE] £1725 Grand total £2,352.59
