Money is all that counts

Well I am saddened by what happened today. I was Pulled into the office after my shift at work and informed I was being given one weeks notice of dismissal.
Despite always being the first to arrive at work, doing relief cover at an hours notice and not going sick once I am out of the door.
My crime? Not getting my head round a confusing system of vat free offers and making a few mistakes in transactions.
It basically boils down to the company loosing a few quid on a few unintentional mistakes which I would have been happy to pay for if Id been asked and I would have been happy to take further training.
It seems good people count for nothing these days only money.

how long have you been with the company? What does the contract say about notice periods? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I have been there just short of three months and it was a probationary period. I feel I have been used to get them through xmas and have been busting a gut to achieve sales targets for the employee bonuses which I have since discovered don,t apply to me any way, the contract states they can blow me out within this time and I really did,nt expect it, as I have worked hard for them. Most of all it is hurtful and has knocked my confidence as a mature person.0

Im not sure will have to dig it out. Manager said I did not have to work my final week but if I dont I wont get paid. I am intending not too as I cannot put on a happy face knowing this, plus I feel humiliated after leaving in tears today.0

It couldn't just be that you weren't good enough? You made mistakes that cost the company money, more than they would normally accept by the sounds of it?
Chalk it up to experience, make sure you have been paid your holiday pay and move on.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -

try and work if you can, the money will come in handy and it may affect when you can sign on if you don't work your notice.
don't worry about being upset, emotion is good, shame your employer didn't have more.
Remember to start your JSA claim straight away.
Good Luck and look for a better employer, it's their loss.0 -

What emotion would you use, when confronted by a new employee who apparently was not up to the job? What reason would your emotions give you for keeping them in it, as opposed to another equally deserving person who was better able to carry it out?0 -

The OP sounds a reasonable person, so I would expert the mistake could not have been something a little more training could not have sorted out.
If you need me to tell you want emotion is involved in sacking or not sacking someone then I'm not going to bother as clearly you would still not understand.
Instead of taking the time to comment on my post, why not try and offer the OP some advice.0 -
How much is a few quid?0

Thanks guys - just to put it all in perspective this was a second part time job just on Sundays for three hours. This equates to around 56 hours in total since I started (including a bit of overtime) which is just over a normal full time working week if you look at it that way.
In my other job I am a pharmacy technician qualified to NVQ level 3.
I took the Sunday job for a bit of extra cash and as the business specializes in a particular trade only product sector which is of interest to me as I am at college part time studying that sector if you follow me.
During the time there I have been on basic minimum wage (no problem with that) and earning around £20 per shift but probably spending £20-£30 each week on supplies for college.
I was not shown exactly how much money I lost them but in chatting to some other the other employees I was told that even after years they still make mistakes as offers change weekly and the particular items I made errors on were deducting VAT-free days where a small selection of items were not VAT deductible.
It would have helped greatly if the tills were programmed to flash this up in some way as prices on these goods remain the same constantly. xx0
