Woofing at me now, after a 10 minute settle.
Worse than having flipping kids. Although having said that, he's one woof away from some time out in his crate which social services tend to frown at for children.

:rotfl:Maisie does this if she wants to play and I'm trying to ignore her :rotfl: it's the most ridiculous woof that it makes me laugh every time ..... which is then the invitation to play open *sigh*

This sounds like every night in my house. Daft dog just doesn't understand the meaning of the word 'calm' and picks up anything he can get his mouth around just to wind me up. He'll prance around with whatever he's nicked waiting for me to snap and chase him for it, or else if that doesn't work he'll leap at me on the couch until I stand up just so I don't lose an eye. This means he's won apparently, because he looks very pleased with himself and plants his chops around an ankle or wrist and slobbers.

If the prancing and the leaping hasn't worked, he resorts to barking in that loud 'aroo roo rowf' sort of way that gets so irritating that he gets chucked into the garden. The problem seems to be that he enjoys everything, so there really isn't a punishment that works. He doesn't understand being ignored and just seems to think that I haven't noticed his stupid face about half an inch from the end of my nose while I'm trying to have a sit down.

So I really don't have any advice, OP!

Well after 2 hours he went quiet. So on the grounds that if he's gone quiet he's probably doing something he shouldn't, just out of sight, I went to investigate.
And he was curled up beautifully in his crate.
Except me checking on him has woken him up again. I could kick myself, I really could.
    Aaarrgghh. And breathe.

On the basis that checking on him will likely wake him anyway, I'd probably start with 'capturing calmness' with the idea it should help him learn to settle down quicker in the future

  • And we do this to ourselves why?

Shadow has only recently figured out she can get into the settee unaided and as I've just posted on another thread, she will moan and grumble if there's not enough space for her to get up with us, then decide she needs to go to the toilet, look hopefully from me to the kitchen door (that's if your actually allowed to fully close the door, she doesn't like that at all so we all have to live with an arctic blast hitting us in the neck) you can't leave her in another room alone for too long as when it all goes quiet, you know she's found some sort of prohibited item and then you have to belt in, right in the middle of your tv programmes and then you realise you have missed the full thread of what's going on and what's the point in watching the end of it anyway?

It's as well I'm not house proud, a trail of toys is ever ready to trip you up, the garden resembles the trenches and whatever 'treasure' is retrieved, be it a tree root, a weed or a clump of dirt is then proudly brought in for a display.

Believe me, children are FAR easier!

no houseproud person should ever own a pet! not in my view anyway! even the best behaved leaves a mess.........I am currently filling an onion net bag with Barneys combings and the little 'tufts' he leaves in various places.........
And he 'dribbles' when sleeping. not a problem when he sleeps on his pillow but on the back of the settee....its leather and his 'dribbles' are plain to see! OH hasn't noticed yet! mainly because I wipe them off with baby wipes. and make sure that its only the lamp in corner that's lit in the evening! OH is the houseproud one! I like 'lived in' look - he likes 'showroom' look!

I think it must be something in the air tonight...

LS is finally snoring (covered in mud, on the sofa, but NO WAY am I waking him up again to move him!).

He has spent most of the night stealing things. He stole my boots and ran round flinging them in the air and catching them. I ignored him as I know he doesn't damage my things, just uses them to taunt me. He then went and got an old pair of slippers he was given after they developed holes. He lined the slippers up nicely in front of me, next to my boots, and proceeded to rip the slippers in to tiny little pieces whilst looking me dead in the eye. He then went and picked up a boot and sat threatening to rip it.

I again ignored him, and so he dropped the boots and started barking IN MY FACE!

He then ran upstairs where I could hear rustling, and he came back down with my bra, only tripped himself up with the strap whilst running round with it dangling from his mouth. I couldn't keep a straight face and I laughed :( Cue him looking smug, curling up with a satisfied 'huff' in front of the fire.

I have spent the night playing mind games with my dog... What is going on??!
