Shares when company is sold

I have some shares in a 120 outlet retail company, ABM (previously bought on sharesave schemes). Up until about 1 year ago I was happy to keep these and let the value continue to rise. However, the shares have plummeted in value over the last 3 months and are around 10% of their value 1 year ago. The company is obviously struggling and have announced that they intend to put the company up for sale. I have asked the company secretary what this means for my shares, she has referred me to my bank for advice on this and the bank have referred me back to the company. Is anybody able to help with what the possible outcomes may be ?
