Bracknell Computer Fair canned because of dayglo road signs

Once a month is what I would call occasional.
How about every 4 weeks? Twice a month? Once a week? How about 12 times a year, but all clustered over the Christmas period? Therein lies the problem - if you start making exemptions you have to draw a line, so where should it be drawn?!
I think it's fair to say after 20 years it's well established and has had plenty of opportunity to 'go legit'0 -

As far as legit goes, I can't comment on the business - I'm just a customer.0 -
"Thinking dayglo signs are a bit tacky (and I agree they are) is not really a justification for taking them down. We don't suffer from loads of them clogging up all of the lampposts and obscuring the road signs;"
Thank you, you've proved my point exactly.
They aren't everywhere because they are regulated.0 -

I said "We don't suffer from loads of them clogging up all of the lampposts and obscuring the road signs"; that's been the status quo for a number of years, not just a statement about the vista starting today.
If you put them up for a specific event and take them down after is perfectly reasonable.
If the regulation enforces that, then it's good. And if responsible events do so either off their own back or by correct application of the regulation then that's good too.
But regulation which simply removes them from existence does nobody any good, unless it's to ease the minds of pathological dayglo sign haters.0 -
Regulation doesn't remove them from existence-regulation requires you to pay - and display a suitable size of lettering etc( much like the regulations around number plates)0

What are the regulations for local events signage?0

I assume the signs aren't just up on the day, but for a few days to a week in advance.
How many shops in Bracknell town centre? Should every one of those be allowed to advertise this way for 4 days a month? After all, they could claim their latest sale, or special offer, or new line is a specific event.
The fact is there are rules and 99% of business abide by them. Just because one business wants special dispensation to flout the rules doesn't mean those rules are wrong, it means that business is in the wrong.Anything which drives business away from the town is a bad thing
So it's acceptable for 'Maggies Massage Parlour' to plaster the streets with signs advertising their monthly swingers night then, because it brings business to the town centre?0 -
Still can't see how not having the signs up meant they had to pull the plug on the event?0

How utterly stupid!
I've just taken my son along to the Sports Centre because he wanted to buy the bits to build a computer. But we got there to find nothing on.
The idea that somebody has complained that the temporary dayglo signs are a distraction to motorists is utterly ridiculous (if they distract you then you're not fit to drive a car!), and the "detriment to the amenity" is preposterous - this is Bracknell we're talking about not a quaint picture postcard village consisting of beautiful thatched cottages and a lovingly manicured village green in an area to die for.
As far as hobbyists go now, there is pretty much nowhere in Bracknell not the surrounding area to buy computer components from, so we'll probably be off to Croydon next weekend instead, which is a bit of a hike.
Well done Bracknell - another reason to go shopping elsewhere! I'll be writing to the council about this; this is the most stupid example of local officialdom and red-tape gone wrong that I've seen in quite some time.
Paul from Bracknell
Paul from bracknell, your not really Paul driver owner of said company are you?0
