Indoor guinea pigs

Afternoon.

(Sorry about the rambling background but its relevant)
We have got 2 guinea pigs who have always lived outside/garage. As they have wintered in the garage in the past, they tend to not be particularly interacted with, so we decided to bring them into the kitchen this year.

They are in an area that isn't overly warm, but I suspect they wont go outside now. Their wooden hutch is smelly.

My question is what do your guinea pigs live in if they are inside
I have seen a few solutions but cant find anywhere locally (Bristol) to get the plastic from.
They are in a massive hutch (Pets At Home Poppy Den) at the moment, and I am not willing to put them in anything smaller. We have to cats so it would have to have a lid.

Many thanks for reading and any help.

If it's Coroplast you're after, I bought several sheets online to make a playpen for my pet rats from here

Zooplus do a range of indoor cages, might be worth a look

Coroplast...that's the one, thanks. I cant find where to get it from so will have a look at that link.

Zooplus only have four, and they have ladders. My pigs aren't clever enough for that we tried to put their run under their hutch last summer to double their living space but they couldn't work out the ladder; cost me a fortune in veg as bribery!!)

Actually, just seen one, but not sure about this in the description!!
The Skyline Maxi XXL Rabbit and Guinea Pig Cage is a robust home for a whole guinea pig or dwarf rabbits.

Darn, if only they did a cage for my half guinea pig!
  • Ive got a double cage made by rosewood I think, two piggies use it fine but the third plain refuses! I dont know if its because they want to stick together but they spend 90% of their time with her on the bottom section, so a big cage isnt really worth it for some pigs.
I have had the skyline cage before, its one of the cheapest but a decent size, I used two put together so they had loads of room and although they had a ramp it was small and not so daunting.
If you have the space (and room to ventilate!) Indoor pigs are great and get so much more attention than when stuck outside :)

I love having them inside, OH is going to look at fixing hutch. Was one skyline big enough for two boys?

They are in the kitchen under breakfast bar. We put them out when its dry but should I have a window open for air for them when I can?

If you keep the hutch, I'd recommend lining the base to help minimise smells - lino should do the trick if they're not chewers. You can run it up the sides slightly so wee can't run underneath.

They are chewers, chew bl00dy everything, including their new igloo. I could find a way OH could nail it down though so that its flush to the sides. That's a brilliant idea, thankyou.

A staplegun with heavy duty staples should work. You could even run something like a metal carpet strip over the edge to protect it a bit

kylyr, Tom, Jerry (the pigs) and my hubby say thankyou!!

We would rather have them in a hutch off the floor (tomcat sees them as sushi!!), and this may be a cheap ideal solution.

Thankyou everso much for your help and advice.
