I use the peel from satsumas, clemantines, oranges, lemons etc. - whatever citrus peel isn't being used in a recipe... put in a pretty saucer on the mantlepiece or coffee table, give the peel a squeeze every so often as it's drying out.
Requires a little more effort than a sensor-controlled plug-in but it's free! :money:
I also have one of the scent bottles with reed sticks, my mum buys them for me. It is really nice, I always notice it when I come into the room. Not sure how cost-effective they are in MSE terms though as I don't buy them myself.
I also love the tea light oil burners (I have the ones with a large water reservoir at the top) and use mandarin oil, clary sage oil and patchouli oil (not together!). Those are quite moneysaving as the oils last ages but you have to keep an eye on the water reservoir and the tea light of course.
Another vote for the citrus peal, I put mine in a recycled envelope
and pop it behind a radiator, also use orange oil to polish my coffee table fireplace and tv unit smells lovely.Slimming World at target0 -
I seem to waste fortune on room perfumes that either smell aweful (Aldi's fesh linen reed diffuser reminds me of my gran's Izal toilet rolls) or I can't smell.
Is it me or are the majority so weak that they are barely noticed ?
I've tried Dunelm Mill's and Tesco's own reed diffusers (and returned them as useless), plus Glade and Airwick gels( the chunky types). Some of Aldi's diffusers are strong enough to scent the bathroom and hallway, but they don't smell very nice. Then aerosols only briefly scent.
My current useless scent is a Glade discreet, which is supposed to smell of jasmine. I've followed instructions (removing the foil and displaying membrane outwards), but what hardly noticeable scent there is (after a few hours), is absolutely nothing like jasmine. A bargain at £3; I think not.
Candles are hit or miss (Glade and Yankee being good but expensive).
I find the best are oil burner essences and Ambi Pur plug ins, but both, like candles need supervision, because of fire risk. ( A friend had a fire service visit, after a fire in her street and was told that plug ins are responsible for a number of house fires).
I notice that above, people mention citrus fruits, but I don't like to smell those, so I'm stuck with flames or plug ins and having to remember to extinguish when going out.0
