Moving my mortgage ?

In the process of getting my house ready to go on the market and would like to move my mortgage with me.

When I originally had taken out the mortgage 2 years ago, I was tied in for 3 years with a £999.85 penalty if paid before then. I asked then whether I could move the mortgage and not have to pay penalty as thought I would be moving within that time period.

I called the mortgage company yesterday to ask about this and was advised that I could move my mortgage but would have to reapply ?!? I know that obviously they would have to decide whether the new property is ok for the original mortgage I had ( I am looking for the same amount and the new house will be approx 15k cheaper, but my mortgage is only 50k !) and whether my salary could still pay the mortgage (Salary has risen).

I asked how to I sort this, thinking couple of questions over the phone ie new house, salary etc ... but NO !!!!! She said I would have to reapply ... and how can I reapply I asked. In a branch, online or by phone and I would get an answer in 4-6 weeks !!!!! How the hell can I even think about looking for something new (if I sell mine quick) if I dont know have a mortgage in place ???

Don't know if this is correct or she just wanted me off the fone, end of her shift, toilet stop, fag break etc !!!

Is this right ???
