Excel missing

Someone has removed Excel from a lap top computer that had 2003 Office on (I don't have the original OEM number). All the other programmes remain, just Excel is missing. I've tried to recover it, but it can't find it to recover. I'm not at all techie so know nothing of this sort of thing, but I think I've heard that you can download free compatible versions of Office programmes. Can anyone recommend a free compatible version of Excel (if they do exist), or are they not worth it?

I would first check whether they had removed the shortcut only i.e. the program is still on the hard drive of the machine but not immediately visible. If you search for excel.exe and find it you can restore the shortcut.0

Libreoffice is a free suite like Microsoft office it includes "Calc" which is very like excel, although it doesn't support macros.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?

What happens when you double click on a spreadsheet? Does it open?
If excel.exe has been deleted, check if it's in the recycle bin, then to restore it you will need the original office disc. Pop it in and you will be given the option to add features.
If you haven't got the disc and you can't find excel.exe then a second vote for LibreOffice.0 -
If memory serves correctly the Office installation files get copied to the hard drive during initial installation, which means you can reinstall Excel via Programs and Features in Control Panel (Add/Remove Programs if XP).Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car

It's not just the shortcut that's been removed, it's the Excel program. I tried to restore it but it said it couldn't find it to restore.0 -
You can recover the licence key using Magical Jellybean Key Extractor, if the rest of Office is still installed. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I assume that you have the licence key?
In which case you can download the Office 2003 Standard package from http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/2/3/6233A257-16BD-4C8D-BF4C-6FA59AF9213A/OfficeSTD.exe and use it to re-installThis is a system account and does not represent a real person.
