How to search for/buy an app in Google Play?

This is going to sound completely pathetic, but here goes. I have a new Sony Xperia smart phone and want to download a couple of apps. I know what they are called. It seems I have to do this via Google Play Store. I have set the wifi option on and opened the play store and selected "apps" as my choice. But I cannot find anywhere a search option in which to enter the names of the apps I want to search for and download.

It has a top line: categories/ home/ top paid /top free/top grossing/top new paid/top new free/trending
and underneath that various different categories including tools. But even when I pick tools it then lists all tools in order of popularity and of course there are thousands of them.

Do I have to search them all to find the ones I want?
