Tax credits repayment

Hello...hope anyone can advise. I stopped claiming tax credits, by not renewing, because I took on another job (the income from which was very variable), and because my childcare needs were so changeable (after school clubs/uncertainty as to annual leave in holiday time) that I decided the money I was getting wasn't worth the hassle and I thought that being unable to give accurate 'average monthly' figures would end up with me accidentally overclaiming.
The result is the HMRC demanding more than £7000 back...every penny ever given as Credits. There is no possibility of giving this back as I am already under a Stepchange plan to pay back debts run up while my little one's mother was around before she found someone wealthier. I informed HMRC of this and their response was to instruct Akinika Debt Recovery. On phoning them to say I hadn't got the money I was threatened with County Court etc and that my possessions would be seized (this was the only thing I found amusing...I have a 10 year old car, an old desktop and a PSP. If the HMRC deem these worthy of seizing then bring it on)
I have tried to write to the HMRC but they only seemed to include a phone number for payments on their recent letters. Anyone know an address??
I feel so infuriated that the CSA can't enforce collection of the maintenence owed to me by my ex (schedule after schedule ignored) but HMRC can threaten all sorts within weeks.
Apologies for length...it just all seems a bit wrong.
