Credit file confusion

Some years back (4 - 5 years) we had a nightmare few years with ''defaults'' on bank loans, CCs, Store cards. Biggest was the Bank with a loan and CC totalling £15K. Eventually I started regular payments to all creditors and it became manageable. I was able to clear all debts in full during Nov 2011. I've just checked my credit file and a few funnies have got me thinking.
1. Surely all defaults, cleared in full during Nov 2011, would still show on the file as ''settled'' (6 years) Most do not appear at all ? I can remember way back reading one default notice and thinking that it wasn't an official ''default'' just from the creditor to me without being registered ?
2. Its still showing a default for bank CC but strangely the amount in Oct 2011 was £1770, in Nov 2011 showing £0 but in Dec 2011 a debt of £1800 . Its showing default ever since although I have never received any documentation since the ''settled'' letter which I am searching the loft for. Paperwork error ? because surely if it was a real debt they would have asked for repayment.
3. Linked to 2 above I received a cheque today from said bank (credit ruling last year?) for £1170
but surely if I owed them cash they could have kept that ? This bank and I got divorced way back.
4. I'm also thinking ''bank the cheque before saying anything'' - to be doubly safe. Is my next move to discuss with the bank/DCA about this apparent debt and if I can find the settled letter just throw that at them. I have a new CC which is fine but it took some work to get it and now I can see why ?

1 Are you saying the accounts do not show at all? or that the accounts show but you are surprised that there are no defaults on those accounts?
2 Does this account show as satisfied? or does £1800 show as the current outstanding balance?
3 They would likely have the ability to offset from you (assuming that the original debt was still owed by the bank and hadn't been sold to a debt collector.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

1. Do not show at all ! (2 x store card / 1 x CC (not the one in question)
2. £1800 as an unpaid default with no change since Dec 2011
3. The bank debts were handled by a team called ''Debt Managers'' in Edinburgh who I think are the banks own DCA but could be wrong.
Also recent (6 months) phone contract not showing although it was obtained with no snags at all.0 -
I'm just reposting a bit of this to avoid it sliding off the end.
4 - 5 years ago I had - Bank loan and bank CC (same bank - total 15K)
- 2nd loan with M and S (about 2.5K)
- 2nd CC (under 1K)
- Store card (ex JJB / Duet about £3K)
Managed to start regular payments to all and it became manageable.
Stumbled into a lump sum in Nov 2011 and settled all in full during that month. I've just checked my credit file (Noodle) and I'm confused.
1. There is no mention whatsoever of

a. So bank CC ? - Paperwork error ? if it was a real debt they would have asked for repayment ? Also, I have just received a cheque today from said bank (credit ruling last year?) for £1170 but surely if I owed them cash they could have kept that ? b. How can there be no mention at all of the highlighted above.0 -
Its strange you can't see these accounts on Noddle. Noddle does have two pages by the way when you click on Financial Account Information. By default it shows open accounts, but you have to click on either closed or settled accounts to show any accounts which are closed/settled. Have you checked Experian and Equifax too? If they aren't showing anywhere I'd say that was a blessing in disguise. As for the CC you could call them and query it?0

You say it was 4-5 years ago since you had problems - could it have been a bit longer ago? possibly more than 6 years since you defaulted? if so that would explain why they no longer show (as defaulted accounts drop off 6years after the default date).
If its definitely not more than 6 yearsthen the two other possible options
- 1 they show on one of your other credit files
- 2 that you have a past address missing from your noddle credit file
The CC debt that does show - what default date is showing on your credit file for that debt?
Have you managed to find the settled letter they sent you?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
