Smart Parking Charge Scotland

Options
Hello all, Newbie here.

Just got a PCN from Smart Parking in Edinburgh. Have read other threads relating to this company and the advice seems to be ignore it completely? Is this still valid?

I had a permit for the car park but forgot to display it like I normally do, it was in a private car park for a set of flats. There is a pretty big sign laying out the terms of parking there but the ticket just says "to user" and all the usual stuff which I assume many of you are familliar with.

My home address is not in any way related to the car park where the notice was issued either.

Any other advice?

Many thanks

Yes, read the advice in the stickies, in Scotland and NI (where I am) we still have the luxury of being able to completly ignore these leeches on society.

Ignore, Ignore and then Ignore some more.

No change for Scotland or NI - You just ignore them and then ignore their fake debt collectors.

Having a look at the pre-POFA letter chain thread in this forum will give you an idea of the sort and number of letters to expect. :)

Search the forum for 'Scotland' and/or read the current 'Newbies read this first!' sticky thread and of course that confirms the current advice in Scotland & NI is to ignore. The sticky info would be updated if something had changed.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Got my letter through and continuing to follow the advice in the Sticky, I'll be ignoring it. I guess they have the header of "Do Not Ignore" for a reason...

One question that I couldn't find an answer too in the Scotland/NI section of the sticky is:

Will any of their possible actions affect my credit score in anyway? (Apologies if this is a silly question.)

    Thanks

Absolutely not. No possible way on earth. Even a "real" fine issued by the police or a council would not affect your credit score.

I have amended your post to reflect reality.

A credit score could only be affected if:

They take the driver to court, the court agrees with them, the court finds in their favour - and then the driver decides to ignore the court.

None of those things are going to happen in Scotland - especially as they don't know who the driver was.

Don't forget - you're the keeper - that's all they know - don't contact them or tell them anything.

    Its a scam!

That should help you understand why the answer is no. And old thread but still a goodie!
