I have recently applied for both housing benefit and tax credits. My current situation is - I'm on maternity leave and my partner has just had to start claiming jobseekers. So we are living on stat maternity pay and jobseekers.... Housing won't give me anything as my last payslips still show full wages - apparently I have to supply my next one. Still waiting on the tax credits form through the post so not sure if entitled to any of those. I keep seeing this 'universal credit' but have no idea what it is, if I can claim for it etc? Housing lady was rubbish and just mentioned income support.

What is it exactly and should I have claimed for that instead of housing benefit and tax credits??
