Icons gone from tablet home page

I don't think I did, but have to concede I must have done, that is touched a setting in my Galaxy Tab 3, because two things have happened. 1) a safe mode has appeared bottom left and 2) three app icons have gone.
Via App Store, I re-installed the missing apps, only to be told they are already on my device. Should I remove them totally and start again? why have the icons gone?

I've had app icons disappear when they've updated on rare occasions. I think you mean you still have the apps installed, you just meed to add the shortcut back. If so, long press on a blank area, select add shortcut (or similar - mines not a samsung), select the app you want and drag it to the home screen0

Thanks but, is it better to surf in safe mode, albeit tablet or laptop?
One more thing, I have no idea what "rooting" means. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Safe mode usually means restricted OS to allow potential misbehaving apps to be fixed or removed .
ROOTING means essentially the user gaining a far higher level of system control. This allows tasks to be carried out that are normally blocked by the OS . This can be as simple as running a backup app or at a deeper level changing removing apps files folders from the actual OS system .
How to and ease of such depends upon individual product .
NEGATIVE in all cases rooting voids warranty and will often show a counter to say its been rooted , Though signs of root are usually able to be removed .0 -
