My baby
is 13 at the beginning of August.
She wants me to hire a limo & take her friends ice skating  :rotfl:
Its not going to happen.
I just need a million and one other suggestions to tempt her.
My garden is a good size & I am considering offering her a themed party if the weather is forecast good. We've got a barbecue too.
Any suggestions for a theme?
She's fairly girly but is also one of the lads if that makes sense!! She was considering a garden sleepover with some friends so I am thinking of doing a themed party ending with a garden sleepover. She wants both boys and girls at the party but the sleepover will be girls only :rotfl:
All her friends are going down the limo route & it costs about £100 to hire
She knows its expensive but has asked for no presents and she's offered to put some of the money she will get towards it but I just feel its such a waste of money.
Once I decide on theme or an activity for a day out I can get organising. She's such a good girl and deserves a special birthday this year
See, now I've typed that i'm tempted to give in to the limo thing but I want to try and come up with something different that they'll all enjoy
Any suggestions much appreciated?
How did you celebrate your childs 13th birthday?

Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

It is very hard not to give in. However if you can think up an alternative I would do that. Why not keep the limo thing for when they are all going someplace and then the cost would be shared out amongst everyone, so it might only cost you £10-£15.
If you have a big garden and have enough space for a big tent or tents I would go for that. They prefer all being in together even if it is a bit tight. What about a bar-b-que they are always really popular. Do you have or could you borrow a biggish gas one - they are much easier.
Or if it needs to be inside, could you borrow a chocolate fountain they are also great although the chocolate is about £10 but it will last for a lot of people all night. If you join on line AMF bowling gives you a free game for six but it sounds like there would be more people. Could you buy/borrow/hire outside Jenga or other games like that? What about using any Tesco vouchers you have for a day out? I think you probably need to get numbers sorted out first - and then think what would suit that number. Do you have a good digital camera and a printer? Or an instant print out camera (that is a good laugh). Or get someone who appears to be a professional to come and take photos.0 -

Quick thoguht how much is it going to cost for food and entertainmet? If they stop over are you going to provide breakfast ( more expense)? And if it rains ???????
Ring around a few limo companies because if you are going on a not to busy day i.e. mid week or in between weddings and evenings they may do it cheaper! Also suggest that all these girls will require limos for future and if you get a good price you will recommend them and they will get loads of repeat business through family and friends.
Also the girls are not going to be drunk etc and it is a niche market they may not have considered.
Let's face it if you do come up with something else and anything goes wrong who is going to be the wicked witch of the west!!!
Just a thougt!!!0 -

It seems that Prom style parties are very popular at the moment... where all the girls and BOYS have to dress up...
Maybe A nicely decorated marquee in the garden would be ideal for this.
You can get some lovely bits cheap from the pound shops, and the kids cab scour charity shops for ball gowns..(perish the thought lol).0 -
I did a garden party with BBQ for my daughter when she was 13 and 6 of them stayed the night in a large tent in the garden. They had great fun and all really enjoyed it. Save the Limo for later birthdays or celebrations. Tonight is my daughter prom at School she is 15 will be 16 next month. 10 girls and 4 boys have hired a limo for the evening which was £35 each. They are all being droped of here and their parents are collecting them at 12.30am but 7 including my daughter are staying here the night. I know they will have a great time out and they do love a sleepover even though it is hard work. I am sure your daughter would enjoy a garden party, I got a couple of DVD's which they watched in the evening and they generally just chatted.Competitions wins 2010

Thanks for all the ideas everyone.
I've got some clubcard vouchers with tescos.
I have enough to pay for 6 people to get wristbands at Blackpool Pleasure beach so have tried to tempt her with this. She needs to talk it over with 'the gang' first :rotfl:
She really does have her heart set on the Limo but it would only last 1hr at most & will cost about £120. I dont get the attraction which is why I'm struggling to get my head round it!
My Brother in Law has a hire & leasing company & hubby reckons we can ask him for a 7 seater for the say so I'd only have to pay for petrol.
So, a day out at the pleasure beach - I'd only have to pay for lunch (chippy?) and a meal out afterwards.
Maybe I'll look into getting a quote for an hours limo 'cruise' around Blackpool as a suprise if I can justify it in my head!!! My hubby really thinks we should do it for her.
She's put up with so much over the last 2-3 years & often gets overlooked with everything that goes on in our house - I think I'm trying to persuade myself here:o :rotfl:
Anyway, thank you so much for your input & time - it really is appreciated.Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
For my dd's 13th I booked a table for her and four friends for a Chinese buffet lunch. I paid £4.99 for each and then £1.50 for a soft drink which was refilled for free. They then went off shopping and dd spent her birthday money. It surprisingly worked out much cheaper than any other party I have done, was no work and they loved it. I think the being left alone and the fun of choosing from a large buffet made it a success. Dd said it felt like she had become a teenager as it was more independent.
Oh, I should add that I checked when booking that this was ok and gave the place my mobile number.0 -

oooooo, that is such a good idea. Our local chinese buffet has a chocolate fountain too so that would have been a really good idea. *stores for future use*
I've ordered the pleasure beach wristbands today with my tesco clubcard vouchers. 6 adult wristbands have cost me £42 in clubcard vouchers. This would have cost £168 if I'd have had to pay for them which I wouldn't have done so I'm very please. This actually hasn't cost me a penny so I'm viewing this as 'free' :rotfl:
Just waiting for Brother in Law to get back to us with whether or not he can lend us a 7 seater for the day. Hope so or we'll have to take 2 cars which wont be as much fun.
So, have been getting quotes for a limo & have a quote for a gorgeous brand new pink limo with sparkly light ceiling, playstation, cd player, dvd player, free alcohol free bubbly, free soft drinks, an hours 'cruise' will cost £125 or £99 for 30mins.
Am probably going to go for the hour. Extravagant I know but hey, she's worth it
My daughter has spent this afternoon designing invitations on the computer - she's becoming a moneysaver though - she's emailed them to her friends instead of printing them off and posting them :rotfl:Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
