I had been with Npower for 4 years and realised i was on a really expensive deal. After seeing Martin on Watchdog i switched and by December i was switched. However i was building up a good buffer of credit on my NPower account for winter which i need back to pay into Scottish Power however it has been really tough trying to get that money back.
Does anybody have any tips or advice on how to get my money back. Its been a month now and still no sign.

I threatened SSE/Ebico after following money claim online guidance and it may have been a coincidence they paid up and sent a cheque dated 2 days after the email.
They actually claimed the new suppliers inpector who read the meter days before had made a mistake and consumption was wrong but the bluff failed.
I don't see what the problem of using a small claims court if a) you have admittance of the debt in writing (bill/invoice) and b) you have given them notice of action.
Other forum users might tell you what tricks the energy companies may get upto i.e. issuing counter claim saying you were actually on the wrong tariff and you owe them, harassment or blacklisting.
The problem with npower is they no longer give auto-response acknowledgements for your emails or online messages quoting your original text so you can't add this notice easily to the court claim.
To wait over a week after the final bill has been issued is unreasonable but not suprising.0 -
It took about 6 weeks after I swapped supplier, but I got my credit back eventually. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

I swapped from Scottish Power on 4th November and I'm still waiting. I haven't given up hope yet:(Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

Have you had a final bill from NPower. Until your new supplier provides the change of supplier reading to your old provider can't produce the bill. Once the bill has been issued I would expect the money back within 7 days.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I got a reply back from Npower stating that it was with the finance department and my final bill would be issued within 10 days. That reply was Jan 17th. It is now Feb 8th and still nothing. I am starting to get quite angry about this Npower are holding almost £300 of my money which i need back.
Do you think a complaint to Ofgem would help?
According to my Npower account i was switched in mid November. I do not think it acceptable for them to hold my money for this length of time.0 -
Npower have been holding £516 of our money hostage since the beginning of Dec when we moved to Eon. It seems they use this trick with the majority of their customers when discussing with friends. After many phone calls to them and many different stories they're putting it down to a "computer glitch" and may take another 28 days. If my computer glitched for that long I'd get a new one!!! No apology, no money, no resolution in the near future, no going back to Npower EVER!0

Well i have sent them another email if that gets me nowhere ofgem is my next port of call.0

I have used Npower in the past, but never again. I found their customer service to be abysmal, and they outright lied to me on several occasions. They are a very difficult company to deal with, and the only company I've found worse are British Gas!
I suggest you email, giving a deadline for the return of your money, or you will pursue in the small claims court.0
