Re-locating will i get benefits?

I am relocating at the end of the month to follow my wife - we are moving 100 miles away from home. I have handed my notice in at work and am looking for work in our new area. Will I be allowed to claim unemployment benefit?

You can claim what you want - if you qualify will be a different matter.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.
  • you maybe sanctioned when you claim jsa,but claim anyway and see what happens, the sanction may only be a few weeks

will your wife be working in the new location?
if she is then i dont suppose they would sanction you if the move was made because of work.
if it was just for a change of scenery then it is likely that a sanction would be made.

As HBO posts you can always apply but you may not be eligible.

As Woodbine posts - it would appear that you have 'left your previous employmet voluntarily'. This could mean that a Decision Maker may determine whether your claim for JSA be sanctioned for a period of time.

There are 2 types of JSA - Contribution Based. If not sanctioned then you should be eligible if you have paid sufficiesnt NI contribs over the past 2 full tax years.

or Income Based JSA. If not eligible for JSA C then you could apply for this. However if your wife is in f/t employment then you are likely not to be eligible.

Complex isn't it. Difficult to give accuate advice based on little info - really depends on your circumstances

    Good luck
