Presumably they are 'allowed' in when they want, and you aren't actually kicking them out for the day?

There's a family here who do actually kick their kids out, and they are not allowed back in because 'dad has a hangover' or whatever, they are simply not welcome inside - they have to knock doors to use people's toilets or get a drink of water, and are always wanting to come into my house when it rains.

Blimey, she'd have true cause to bad mouth me if that was the case here!

No, they are allowed in. And out again. And back in and out. Then in for a while. Then to leave the door wide open for 5 minutes while they ponder going back out or staying in. Then one out and two in. Then the one that's out comes in to persuade the others to go out so they all go out. Then come back in..... :rotfl:

(We having a sliding door so there's no banging to annoy her either).

Most of the time they are pestering to be out before I let them out. Especially in the holidays, but I like to wait until a reasonable time because (a) I like to wait until most people have gone to work as there are less cars and (b) I like to lounge in my pyjamas in the morning and I don't want to be popping outside in my PJ's - unlike my children I am not an early bird :rotfl:
  • We love being outside! Today it was 5 degrees and we've walked 4 miles, been to the park and been out for a quick puddle jump too. I actually think one of the best things about being a SAHM to my little girl is the chance to spend so much time outdoors - maybe it's coincidence but I don't get anywhere near as miserable in winter now I spend more time outside in the daylight. Sounds like she was just having a bit of a grumble for no real reason!
  • I like it because it sets limits whilst giving freedom (I hope that makes sense to more people than just me!).

This week we have a packet of crisps, a milky way, raisin box (though I reuse the boxes and fill them from a big bag as it's cheaper), a wee bag of dried fruit, little bag of popcorn, a packet of gummy sweets and for the last thing the smaller two have a packet of Frootz and DD1 and I

Just wanted to say, thank you. I chatted to my OH about this and we decided to give it a try, as we are sick of the constant whining for food! (They are fed!)

I put in boxes of raisins, mini breadsticks, 2 cookies in a container, mini malted milks and a lolly. Sat the kids down and explained it too them and most of it has gone already but we will see how it goes! Already marked on the calendar when it gets filled up again!

    You are very welcome!

You'll probably find the first couple of weeks they will eat it all in a day or so, but after that mine quickly figured it wasn't worth the fun of eating it all when it was a long week!

DD1 did have one week where she saved it all for the last day as well, but she only had the willpower to bother doing that once!

Hope it works for you. Gemma x

They still play outside at school in cold weather so clearly its not neglect.

Did you really just say this? How ignorant of you. you seem to have an issue with working mothers.

As a working mother, I will be a million times more hands on than my sister, who sits on her @rse all day and doesn't even get on the floor and play with any of her three children at Christmas, let alone any other time.

Oh don't be so ridiculous -No-one was talking about you -or your sister who you obviously have a problem with...it isn't all about you !

SAHMs are IN GENERAL far more child centred because they have the time to be- they are physically spending more time with their children than mothers who are spending 35 hours a week plus travelling time away from their kids-Simple maths....and commonsense.

(and before you tell me I "don't understand" I've done the SAHM and the full time working parent both as a single parent and when married so I *do* speak from experience not theory)

Sheesh !! Still what can you expect from someone with such an inappropriate user name ...... Troll-much ?

  • She didn't realise I could hear her, but realised that I had heard her when she seen me. She didn't say anything, just blushed bright red and walked out.

Ahahahaaaaah! Oh well, she got her just desserts then! :rotfl:
I expect she has been kicking herself for her indiscretion ever since!

I wish I could persuade mine to venture outside even in good weather...
