Sorry if this has been posted before.

I've just opened a Nationwide Account for when I'm travelling. I went into my branch today to find out about their £-Euro rate. They didnt seem to have a clue.

Thomas global exchange is using 1.47, so for every £100 I'd get 147Euro.

Will Nationwide offer a better rate than this, as their branch staff don't seem to know.

    Thanks

You should get a better rate than that with Nationwide - I'd guess 1.49, maybe 1.50.

Branch staff won't know what it is - it's dependent on what Visa are charging Nationwide, which is dynamic and can change (only fractionally) for every transaction. They won't have visibility of it.

That Thomas rate is very good for cash though

You would get 1.4959 today - the interbank rate.

I was in France last week and got exactly the interbank rate on all monies and debit payments made.

  • Hi
I have been reading all the messages below and was wondering what is the best thing to do?

Do i get my Euros from Travelex or similar or use my Nationwide deit card?
Or maybe a mixture of both.

I'm looking at exchanging/spending about £1500 to £2000 and want to get the best deal.

    Thanks.

I am going to France in two weeks with my family. Is it best to take cash, travellers cheques or use my Credit Card (Liverpool Victoria)?

    Thanks:T

Nationwide Debit Card - just take it with you and take money out like you do at home when you need it. Make sure the ATM you use has a VISA sign.

When I went to France, I didn't take any cash with me at all, just withdrew from the ATM at the airport.

Nationwide's site has a link to search for VISA ATM machines around the globe.

My Nationwide card is a cashcard not a Visa. it has a Cirrus logo on the back.
Will this be the same rate?
