Best current account for teen

My eldest is 17 and looking for a basic current account with a debit card so he can buy things on Amazon etc. Which is the best account to go for?
Trying to get rid of situations such as he's got a cheque for Christmas but wants to buy something from Amazon. He has to put the cheque in the building society, wait for it to clear, then go back and withdraw the cash and give it to me so I can buy the item on my card for him. It's a bit of a palaver!

Here I go again on my own....

Pretty big choice: http://www.money.co.uk/current-accounts/bank-accounts-for-teenagers.htm0

The bank with the most convenient branch / cash machine. Most will offer exactly what's needed.
Lloyds or TSB for a decent bit of interest.0 -
Why not get him to check the market for himself? then help him open it. It'd be an excellent life lesson for him.
He'll still have to wait for any cheques he receives to clear though.0 -
Thanks - we've already looked at comparison sites for the basics.
Was looking for more personal recommendations of banks that people have had good experiences with. Here I go again on my own....0 -

Most young people follow suit of there parents and have the same bank accounts as their parents, so I"m presuming your not overly happy with your banking service.
finally, I think it is vitial you teach your son the neccesity of controlling your bank account and with that in mind, choose an account that doesn"t have ridiculous over draft charges.0 -
I'm in the process of opening a bank account for my daughter (shes 11) and wants her own account so i can transfer pocket money into and she can put birthday is, we've gone with Abbey and Natwest.
Abbey (account 11/17yrs old) - make an appointment and go from there
Natwest - start online then they send paperwork - your son can take into bank with ID and there carry on with account application.
Both the accounts are for 11/17yr olds - both have debit cards so can be used for Amazon and both can be used in others cash machines without any charge xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

I'm with Smile. Have been with them for about 14 years and I love them! Sadly they don't do teen accounts. Here I go again on my own....0 -
The Lloyds stable of banks (Lloyds / TSB / Bank of Scotland) seems the about best for youth accounts. Pick the closest branch that suits.
Santander is also competitiveI'm with Smile. Have been with them for about 14 years and I love them! Sadly they don't do teen accounts. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Personally I've been happy with my Lloyds youth (and now student) account.
It paid me 2.5% interest and gave me a debit card0
