My lovely husband and I have just bought our first home :j We're moving in on Tuesday. This is a very exciting year for us as we're also due our first baby in February!
With my planned maternity leave and the cost involved in moving we're not sure how easy it will be to hit our target. Nevertheless we're going to aim to overpay by £2250 this year. It may be ambitious but we'll give it a go!

A little about our mortgage:
We have bought a 3 bed terraced property for £125000 (managing to avoid stamp duty).
Our deposit was 5%, we could have waited a little longer and saved 10%, but the landlords of our current rental wanted to sell the flat and with a baby due we didn't want to wait. Also, we love the house so just wanted to go for it.
The loan is for £118750 and we're in a 2 year fix at 5.59%

Welcome to MFW FamilyLife and good luck!
sounds like you're really focused! Good luck with the new arrival too how exciting! I have a 15 month old DS, best thing we ever did. Maternity leave is a stretch financially but the good thing is you get a bit more free time to shop around for good deals etc (well if you have a baby like mine who refused to nap in his cot, only in his pram. ..alot of time spent walking round town haha!) I will be watching your diary with interest

DoF and Tootoo and FB- thank you for your well wishes on the move. I had no idea moving house was so much more stressful when you're buying rather than renting! Do any of you have diaries? I've read a few on here since we knew we've been buying- I don't think I've picked up a book in months!
GlitterJunkie- you have really good overpayments, I shall be watching what deals you find while you're pushing the buggy! Are you still at home with your LO or are you working? I'm looking forward to reading how people on here save money with small children, the cost of childcare has freaked me out a little!
I'm spending the day packing today, not long till the move! At 35 weeks pregnant (almost) I'm a bit useless but I'm a dab hand at delegating

Money saving lesson from yesterday:
when arranging home contents and buildings insurance- check £co! We decided not to get it through our mortgage lender who quoted around £400, used moneysupermarket and found we could get it for £191 from esure. I asked husband to check £co but he didn't want to have to put all the details in again so just ordered it. When I checked later we could have got £35 cashback.
Does anyone know if we would have been given the same quote from esure if we hadn't used money supermarket?
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. Very pleasant day up here in Scotland
Cold though!

Thanks RG I can imagine it will be very addictive for me
My hubby pays all the bills and I concentrate on other household expenses and saving because I'm much more goal driven than him. I think overpaying will tap into that side of me! You did really well with OPs last year and £1200 already in 2014 is impressive!

FL, I find that comparison sites vs Quidco cashback often ends up much the same, so you probably didn't miss out on anything.

You have so many exciting things on the go, enjoy it! And good luck with your journey!a penny picker upper.
