Hi, my laptop is currently not working so I got my old desktop down but have found that my port to connect my Ethernet cable is broken as the cable just won't stay in, I'm not sure what it should look like inside but this is what I have:

would getting a USB Ethernet Adapter work to let me get online with the computer? It's a normal Ethernet cable:

There's so many online does anyone know anywhere cheap and which one I should be getting to do this? Thanks.

More often than not it is the tab that snaps off the ethernet cable. They are very cheap and easy to get, so maybe replace that first?
Otherwise, a new ethernet card for the PC may be cheaper than USB-ethernet converter.Would you say that to a stranger's face in the street? No? Then why type it on a forum?0 -
First of all OP is the plastic thing you press down (it clicks when you insert the connector) still on the connector end ?0

I use broken Ethernet cables quite a bit. The cable might not stay in if you pull it, so my advice is to push it in and then DO NOT PULL IT!1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
Perhaps it'll stay in place with a bit of tape? It's unusual to need to replace an ethernet port.0

Thank you for all your replies. My Ethernet cable is fine as I just bought a new one then I found my old one so now I have two of those. It's the actual port in the computer I think someone pulled the cable out and something must have snapped off in there, the cable doesn't click in when put it and nothing holds it in there. I've tried holding it in there while trying to get the light to come on the router for Ethernet connection and nothing.:heart2: Current Reading Book: [STRIKE]Avengers Angel by Heather Killough-Walden[/STRIKE](on hold) The Good, The Bad, and the Undead - Kim Harrison

It should work if you just push the cable in, the clip is simply a retainer.
You could just get a new card for £4. It's held in with one screw.
