Help and advice on PPI please

Options
Hi..I need some advice. I have a loan I'm still paying off, most of which is now likely to equal PPI payments. However, I had to make a claim in October 2011 as I became very sick and couldn't work. I claimed and was successful.
However, in early October 2013 I was sent a letter saying that I had received my limit of 24 months payments and the insurance were no longer going to pay.
When the letter arrived I had become even more sick and ended up in hospital for a month, ending with back surgery. I'm now home and finally able to face this again. I'm still ill, in a wheelchair now, having surgery against his month to remove a monitor from my heart.
I have asked why the payments stopped only to be told that I had had my maximum payments. I was unaware I had a maximum, I believed it would pay for as long as I was sick.
The lady not he phone just said that it was in the policy documents. She added I could claim under the unemployment claim but only if I was actively seeking work, signing on and if it wasn't a continuation of my sickness...so I can't claim!

Please can someone advise me if I can claim PPI back even though I've claimed on it...based on the fact that I understood it to cover sickness until I was well or the loan was cleared, whichever came first.

This is very sad but I do not think you will be able to claim. The cover has paid out and you signed the policy with a 24 month clause. It would be virtually impossible to prove otherwise

What gave you that impression? PPI, as a product type is short term income protection. Typical length of time for cover is just 12 months although some rare ones go to 24 months. So, the product itself is not designed to go on longer. Hence why do you think it did?

On what basis would you be complaining? You successfully claimed on the policy. So, that verifies you were eligible and you knew about it. Even if the lender agreed to return the premiums, they would deduct the amount of the claim from the refund and with 24 months of claims, that amount is probably more than the premium you paid. So, no refund would arrive. How much did you pay in PPI and how much did you get paid by them on the claim each month?

I wasn't grumbling, just asking a question. I read an answer and said thank you for the response. I didn't think it was a problem as I understood that's what the forum us for.
I have an answer and will leave it at that...I'm not up to a long drawn out 'discussion'
    Thank you

Sorry to hear about your illness, hope you improve. It could have been said more sympathetically but the previous posts are correct, ppi sickness/unemployment benefits are not indefinite, and your policy does not appear to be mis-sold, however, have you checked whether you might be entitled to certain state benefits eg ESA, DLA and Carer's allowance? Best Wishes for the future
