Scrap Cars uk

Options
You know how it is, the same old problem the car has failed its MOT test or has broken down or in some way (eg. engine fcuked) or otherwise got into that classification of "knackered", now you have this problem that it often doesn't look good as a garden ornament, and yet is unsaleable, and not of any value to scrap merchants. In fact I have even heard of scrap metal companies charging money to take it away!
The first thing is that the reason scrap dealers don't want to pay you is that they have to pay to get rid of the rubber tyres! Indeed it is the negative value of the tyres that reduces the positive value of the scrap metal, which is always of some worth.
The other thing is that someone else with that type of vehicle (especially if it is of that same age) will be looking for spares for their machine, and will be having trouble with places trying to charge them too much money! If they
knew you'd got a scrap car they'd be offering you cash for a few bits off it!
So what do you do with scrap cars nowadays? Recycle shouldn't cost any ideas~?

I thought MFR's of cars were supposed to cover the costs of scrapping?

You could break up the car yourself and sell off the bits individually on ebay or something, but this would take time and effort. A car in this sort of condition is generally worth more in little bits than as a whole.

selling for spares sounds a good idea, even if they give you bottom money they are still giving something for it and taking it away

There's a few £100 of spares on most cars. It takes time and effort to clear them though. My local paper has car collectors who will take away for free.
    Happy chappy

Scrap cars are worth around £100 per tonne.

Phone around, someone will pay you and collect it.

You can give it anyway on freecycle, whenever anyone advertises them on my local group, they are swapped with people ready to take them off their hands.
  • 1st, take the car to pieces. You don't need to be a motor mechanic to do this - even if you only get the lights and the control knobs and a few choice bits that have come off the engine it's still worthwhile! £15- 20 quid www.ebay.co.uk, www.gumtree.com, the more of the pieces you get off the car the better. get your mates in to help is usually a good idea. Breaking up a car is a good excuse for a party, even if the volunteers are expected to do it carefully so the spares are actually worth something after they've been extracted! Store the bits. Put free adverts up and sell for a reasonable price. Remember that each part is worth a sensible amount such that it will save someone paying full price from another breakers yard don't forget your bits are 2nd hand too, and this flash tells you most of the legal info

  • Hi, just been reading your posts and I do free scrap car collections.
Cars that are more modern I give cash for but old scrappers I collect for free at the moment.
The price of scrap cars varies from area to area and not all scrap yards pay good money for them.
The cost to depollute end of life vehicles is expensive and with new laws keep coming from Europe I can see people being charged to remove their vehicles.
So take avantage and get your end of life vehicles removed !
