Gold is a good hedge against inflation/hyperinflation both of which could be just around the corner due to all the money printing that has gone on and western governments need for inflation to reduce their deficits
On a practical level, it is more cost-effective to buy shares in a gold ETF backed by physical gold such as iShares SGLN rather than physically hold the stuff yourself with the risk of theft or the cost of insurance/safe-keeping.

The argument that gold is rare is wrong, there are millions of tons of gold do a little research. The 180K tons mined in human history is bogus.

there has been a concerted effort by those who own lots of gold to make it look like gold is more rare than it is.

There is certainly a lot gold on the Earth but getting at it is a different matter. Your theory about gold already mined may be right but what is your evidence?

I'd rather have gold than a huge stash of cash in the bank. Look what happened in Cyprus.

It's scarce by the hoarding behaviour of 'investors' who buy it. Think of all the countries and how much gold they have in reserves. It might be worth trillions of pounds in value, but you can't actually sell it. As soon as you introduce a lot of gold into a market, the value of gold drops significantly. I wonder whether it's to make countries look richer than they are.

Fair Warning! What follows may scare the Dickens out of you gold bugs but will make silver bugs fall over themselves to swap even more of their gold for silver. Refresh yourself on the benefits of swapping gold for silver here: http://www.roadtoroota.com/public/136.cfm

The mainstream gold world wants you to believe that in the entire history of gold mining there has been just over 160,000 tons of gold mined from the ground. On top of that, with all our latest seismic and exploration technology, we have only found about 100,000 tons of underground gold reserves that could be economically mined in the future. That is what "they" want you to believe but...

and yet you would have gotten a bigger 'haircut' on gold in the last year.

A self-confessed conspiracy-theorist citing similar is hardly evidence. Obviously, any quoted figure can only be a rough estimate and, in any case, the actual figure does not much matter. I don't have any gold, BTW.

I'm not sure those articles count as evidence? They seem very low quality and I would be suspicious of his motives. Claiming all these hidden and secret gold stashes. Well if they're hidden and secret then he knows nothing about them also!

Claiming the gold market is manipulated. Claiming the silver market is not manipulated. I keep hearing this market manipulation claim. It seems to me to just get thrown in without solid evidence and taken as fact. I've heard other people claim the silver market is manipulated. How come he's being selective in what conspiracy theories he believes?

Silver is currently about $20/oz. Here's a (hopefully not too out of context) quote from his second rambling:
The $40,000/oz Monetary Gold price would put the value of monetary above ground Silver bullion, as analyzed in the last bullet point above, at....

.... $120,000 per oz of SILVER!

If I were you I'd take his commentary on the precious metal markets with a plate of salt :D
