Lloyds student account holder but IB says I can't open a 2nd CA?!

I have a Lloyds Student account but Internet Banking (IB) says I can't open a 2nd Current Account (CA).

Does anyone know why? I was hoping to have a vantage account and subsequently get a Platinum card in the next year or so...

Perhaps you have a CPD marker on your Lloyds Profile which means (Credit Policy Decline).

This won't allow you to open any other accounts apart from savings ones. Also depending on what kind of CPD marker it is you may not even be allowed to have an overdraft or credit card with them no matter how well you run your accounts.

CPD isn't a marker. It's an internal reason for not being able to offer you credit - and it means that the system doesn't think you run your account well e.g. lots of returned direct debits etc.

OP just call them or go into branch.

Lloyds Call it a CPD Marker hence why I called it that, yes its an internal one to Lloyds, other financial organisations have there own score system which determines what they will or wont offer their customers.

You could always go into a branch and ask them about opening another account they will also let you see what your internal score is too, if you get the right advisor that knows about it.

They raised my OD from 1000 to 1500 online in July immediately!

Plus they raised my CC limit from 750 to 1250 in April so I can't see why they'd have a 'CPD marker' on my account?!

I will visit a branch in March when I get 3k from a regular saver which matures and requires a Vantage account to receive interest!

I'm really interested to know my Internal score!

I'm sure others have mentioned IB restrictions on opening new accounts. You can usually open them via phone.

See https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/64111093#Comment_64111093, in which a poster found the direct link for opening a secondary account, even when the online banking gave the 'sorry, we can't offer you a secondary account' message.

I don't know if it's been conclusively proved to work for all LBG brands (who share the same online banking platform) but was stated as being OK for TSB and BoS - I used it myself two days ago to get a second BoS Vantage despite seeing the above error message when in their online banking.

Alternatively, before I saw that post, I opened a second Lloyds Vantage by phone a couple of months ago without any problems, despite again having the 'no secondary account' message in their online banking.

I've decided to just use my Santander account more intensively
