Kobo Mini eReader

I have just ordered one from WH Smith, can anyone advise is it possible to transfer your own PDF files onto it example: Travel Insurance Booklet (20 pages +documents). The Kobo Mini eReader doesn't have a SD slot, books can be transferred by USB cable supplied to a PC. It would be ideal if I could transfer my PDF files!

I believe it does read PDF's and it's easy to transfer files via USB cable from PC

Thanks - I submitted a question at Kobo Customer Care, got a response, but they didn't answer my PDF question, so I have resent it today in simpler terms. It led me to believe that my PDF files could not be transferred. I've read all the online manuals for the Kobo Mini eReader, about as clear as mud regarding transferring my PDF files.

Adding PDF s to your ereader
Unlike EPUB books, you can't add PDFs to your eReader over Wi Fi or with Kobo Desktop.
There are two types of PDFs: regular PDFs, and DRM-protected PDFs. If you got your PDF from a bookstore or Library it's probably DRM-protected. To add DRM-protected PDFs to your eReader you need to use a free application called Adobe Digital Editions. To add regular PDFs to your eReader you can put them on a Micro SD card, use drag-and-drop, or use Adobe Digital Editions.

I read the basic info, then made the mistake of reading further, lets see if Kobo Customer Care Team can clarify in simple terms
  • Important to note that you need to Drag and Drop rather than Cut and Paste but it's quite straightforward once you've plugged it in to your PC.

Calibre seems like very good free ebook management software. You can also get add-ons for it to convert between all sorts of file formats (e.g. kindle, kobo, pdf, etc, etc)
Would you say that to a stranger's face in the street? No? Then why type it on a forum?

I got a response from Kobo - Thank you for contacting Kobo Customer Care. It was a pleasure speaking with you today.Thank you for emailing us back.:(Unfortunately you can not upload your pdf travel insurance documents to your Kobo Mini reader - I guess that's why it's half price?

You can use the free Calibre software to convert any PDF to an ePub format which may solve your problems: http://lifehacker.com/5509965/how-can-i-convert-pdfs-and-other-ebooks-to-the-epub-format

Interesting thread. I got a Kobo for my son for Christmas but have been disappointed to find a limited number of kids books available. He's almost ready to give up with it.

I'm going to give the Calibre software a go as if I can get some better titles on there then he may be encouraged to use it.

Does anyone know if this works well on a Mac?

Calibre should work on a MAC using version 0.7.28, also have a look at Project Gutenberg, a non-profit making organisation that makes out of copy right books freely available.
