Major PC issues...links dead etc.

on my sisters PC at the mo which has major issues.

too many to list but help on these 2 things to start would help me get started.

no mateer which "program shortcut" i click on, whether in folders on on the desktop the same program opens. how do i unasign a shortcut?

also, i THINK alot of the other issues are related security. i managed to get spybot and adaware running and an online checker and all is fine, BUT i cant even open basic things on the PC like "security centre". when i open "control panel" all the options are there as usual but if i click on 'windows firewall, security centre, add/remove' etc there is no response.

PC was fine this morning but sister thinks a firewall pop up came on and she "blocked" now all these problems.

i even brought hijack this with me but once i put the exe. on it wouldnt launch and didnt display its usual icon logo. just a system file logo.

so i need to know how to unasign the shortcut and if anyone can advise access to firewall etc.

edit. i have just noticed that programs that would normally run on startup are not laoding either.

antivirus etc that is normally accessed via the taskbar launch area is not there.

Hi,

why not try a system restore back to before sister "blocked", you can always undo it if it doesn't work.

Sounds like virus and spyware activity.

Start the PC in Safe mode and run anti-virus and anti-spyware.

To change which program opens a file select (not OPEN) the file. Shift and right click. "Open with".

For a shortcut right click and select properties.
