Kobo gift card from WH Smiths

I was given a Kobo gift card for Christmas, a gift I had asked for, as I love my ereader. On New years day I registered the card to my Kobo account and purchased an ebook which left me 12.00 on my card. I didn't keep the card once it was added to my account, nowhere was it explained that I needed to. Turns out I was supposed to enter the card details every time i purchased a book. No one keeps details of these cards, it seems, so why don't they ensure that people are aware of this situation. The card could only be purchased through WH smith and clearly said Kobo on the card, yet kobo said they only keep details of their own cards!! A lesson learnt for the future but it does seem unfair that i can't now access the remaining balance on the card :-(

This is made clear to the person buying the card if it was bought online provided that they read the terms and conditions before completing the purchase, and there may well be something in store that states the same.

5. Please treat this card as if it were cash. As we do not hold any personal information about a gift card customer, the balance cannot be returned to you if it is lost or stolen

Thanks. In all honesty I should probably have checked it myself when I registered the card.
The GOOD NEWS though is that WH Smith have said that if I can produce a receipt they will actually send me another card with the remaining balance.
I am hoping the email receipt is acceptable, I have been able to forward this to them as my daughter set up an account when she placed the online order.
If this is resolved then I have to give a big thumbs up to WH Smith :T
