Some supermarkets have distribution centres called dark stores for online deliveries as well as using local supermarkets.
I've read that Morrisons plans to share Ocado spokes and build their own. But with like for like Christmas sales down 5%, £216m spent already plus £200m upgrading their IT to support stores, who knows how long this is going to take now.0 -

The set up costs for Ocado must have been huge, if you skim through these videos at the technology..

Morrisons don't deliver here yet. if they do get round to coming here I will give them ago. ASDA delivery around here is shocking. Broken eggs, stuff past it's best before, jars that have been opened and bringing the wrong things (not subs). Tesco don't take electron and Sainsburys are very good but expensive.0

I wondered why I was suddenly getting a little book of coupons almost every week from Tesco - now I know!0

Once it is fully rolled out across the UK, it will still only be to areas that Ocado currently deliver to. If Ocado don't deliver to you, then Morrisons won't either.0
-
Not necessarily, because Morrisons intends to build its own distribution spokes as well as sharing some of Ocado's. Depends how Morrisons finances fare.0

Yes, I saw that they are using central distribution instead of from their stores ala Mr T and Asda. To do the same around the UK is surely going to cost a bomb and not be as effective as either Mr T or Asda?
Yes it will invariably cost a !!!! load of cash, 1 reason why they are doing it this way with Ocado is to see how it fares and what the return on the 200 odd million they paid Ocado is like. They are the last 1 to get in on the online shopping venture and it will be tough for them, there may well be areas that the other 3 dont all cover (but covered by Ocado) so maybe morrisons hope to gain a foothold. Some supermarkets have distribution centres called dark stores for online deliveries as well as using local supermarkets.
Yes thats right, Tesco is 1 of the stores Ive read about somewhere.0 -
We've only just got Sainsburys delivery in our area after store extension. Morrisons store was revamped in 2012 in our town but doubt we will get delivery for a long time to come. We dont have Asda nearest in York some 40 miles way but they been delivering in our area for around 5 years now. We were to have a new Tesco store built but they pulled out late last year they beat Asda for buying land off council/developer.
Its taken Morrisons a long time to do home delivery and only now is pittance. They have few convenience stores too unlike its rivals. They also have little in way of a reward other than buy x amount of weeks and get cash off, no good if you want to accrue some reward over many months etc0 -
Morrisons held off home delivery because it is not profitable for the other supermarkets. They have only caved in due to pressure.0
