  • Morrisons announce delivery's in my area with a delivery from £1, that would explain an email from Tesco who have now reduced midweek charges in my area down to compete with morrisons. They have sent me this email after reducing midweek prices from £1 too. Is this email regional ie where morrisons deliver or is it a national email? This is a direct response I feel to morrisons announcement

    Dear Mr ,

Thank you for subscribing to Delivery Saver. We hope that you are pleased with the service you have so received so far.

We wanted to let you know that we have temporarily changed some of our grocery delivery slot prices and we have introduced both lower and higher priced delivery slots across the week. Depending on your preferred delivery time, it is possible that your Delivery Saver subscription could lead to you making higher or lower levels of savings than may have been the case before we made the delivery slot price changes.
We are committed to ensuring that Delivery Saver offers you real savings and we guarantee that you won't pay more - if at the end of your current plan you haven't made a saving, we will refund the difference between what you paid for your plan and the grocery delivery charges you'd have paid for without it by sending you an eCoupon to use on your next grocery order.
As well as the savings Delivery Saver brings, there are additional benefits available to Delivery Saver customers such as free delivery on Tesco direct (eCoupon code TDR-GRYF) and Wine by the Case (eCoupon code WSJFG6) as well as other exclusive offers from time to time. We hope you will continue to enjoy these on top of the savings your subscription can bring.

If you would like to discuss this with our customer service team please call on 0800 323 4040

    Kind regards

I use Ocado for my weekly shop and just looking at the Morrisons online link, it is exactly the same layout, style and system just with Morrisons branding instead.

The prices and offers look a bit pricey for Morrisons, or should I say, the prices look very close as Ocado in terms of the three meats for £10 deal, etc.

If Morrisons are going to be the same price as Ocado, I'll stick with Ocado/Waitrose branded products.

Just a quick look, Birds Eye Frozen peas (400g) are £1.25 on Morrisons and £1 on Ocado.

Tilda Steamed Brown Basmati rice, is 31.59 on morrisons and only 79p on Ocado (although Ocado states previous price was £1.59 but is now on offer).

I wonder if Ocado have tweaked their prices a wee bit to subtley compete agaisnt Morrisons becuase ocado probably know smart-alecs like me will comapre the two sites side-by-side.

They don't deliver where I am yet, nor do Ocado.

    Shame.

Morrisons bought one of Ocado's distribution warehouses and leased half back to Ocado. They did a deal on using Ocado know-how too.

However neither Morrisons nor Waitrose own Ocado and buying Morrisons products won't be a cheaper way of getting Ocado own brands, no matter how similar the websites look.
  • Interesting - Morrisons is the one shop I'll go to specifically to buy one or two of their own-brand products (in-store donuts and their fruity Christmas stuffing). I do also like their fresh meat and their produce tends to (at least in my sort-of local) have a lot of more exotic choices. I do my main shop with Ocado though because of the convenience and great service. If they're going to be Ocado-without-Waitrose, with the same high service standards, that would be quite a difficult decision for me.

Morrisons lashed out £216m in a deal to buy an Ocado warehouse and then lease half back to Ocado and use Ocado know how to set up their online store.

Sharing a warehouse, even sharing technical know how and packers, wouldn't make Morrisons Ocado.

No matter how good the delivery, website and customer service, the products will be Morrisons not Ocado.

Morrisons own brand from their suppliers, Morrisons fresh food from their butchery and fish suppliers.

The customer demographic just isn't the same either. Also, Ocado sells a lot of international food eg Scandinavian, French, Jewish, South African, American. Ocado sells food from loads of artisanal producers too eg Gail's and Daylesford.

Yes, I saw that they are using central distribution instead of from their stores ala Mr T and Asda. To do the same around the UK is surely going to cost a bomb and not be as effective as either Mr T or Asda?
