my local council is also adding more bus lane enforcement, even on roads where its not needed, so clearly its another way they are thinking of to bolster their coffers at the expense of the motorist

perhaps they think that the new cutbacks on yellow lines etc means they need to get creative with other money making ploys !!

yes, I think so , because they can try to justify it on local transport grounds

Driving in bus lanes and dodgy parking are purely voluntary though (along with speeding). So what is the problem?

The problem, or certainly in Brighton, is that much of the parking signage is unclear and confusing.

Regardless, does £70 sound a fair penalty for being say 10 minutes late back to your car ? The punishment should fit the "crime".

No-one is saying that it is compulsory to drive in bus lanes, what we are saying is that, in many cases, bus they are unnecessary and are the cause of congestion.

The BPA have a different take on this story stating that:

Don't forget that the BPA Ltd membership is made up both of PPCs & every council in the country. Sometimes they speak on behalf of their members' interests in decriminalised council parking and councils & other times for their members in the private parking industry. There are bound to be contradictions.

In my local city of Norwich the penalty for minor parking crimes like overstaying is only £40. It's only more serious offences like parking on double yellow lines that warrant £70 where there is real community interest in deterring such offences not least on road safety grounds.

This puts into perspective the PPC 'fines' of a flat rate £100 for any of their made up contraventions none of which have public policy or safety justification.

make absolutely no mistake POFA will be adapted, capita are hand in hand with the Government and if they are bailing in, we will see the parking charge scammers given the same power as councils.
So you keep saying, but no-one believes you.

    how about...

    Misleading/missing/incorrect signage.

Lanes in operation 24/7 as opposed to merely the congested times.

Quick 'switches' in times eg a bus lane is 6am-9am, stops for 25 metres and then becomes 6am-10am [London is full of these]

Enforcement where there is no real 'congestion issue' ie targeting for revenue as opposed to targeting for congestion relief.

Illegal methods of enforcement - eg mobile cameras

At least the money from council penalties doesn't go to fund ponies, planes & Caribbean holidays.
