Replacing Kitchen Unit Doors

Options
Hello,

We have an old but in good condition Schreiber kitchen bought from MFI a long time ago and would like to update it a bit by changing the doors, worktops etc. We have seen some replacement doors in B&Q that would do the trick but the problem is that the hinges are not quite in the same place and so it might not be that straightforward to swop them over. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to overcome it? Any advice gratefully received!

Many thanks,

Prairie Rose

I don't know how old you units are , but if they are pre-metric, the sizes may not match .

If they are post metric your best would be Howdens. When MFI went they owned Howdens and the doors were interchangeable.

You need a tradesman to order them for you though as they are trade only.

    CDDC is right. Try Howdens.

If the doors you like have the hinges in differet places it isn't too hard to drill new holes for the hinges - using a 'hinge jig' .

It's not just the hings, the doors are slightly different sizes as well, so you'll end up with a gappy kitchen.

Howdens, as the others have said :)
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • You can buy doors from suppliers that provide them undrilled for hinges then drill them to suit. I am sure their are online companies who do this service and supply doors made to any size.
If you buy predrilled doors its easier to move the hinge plate on the unit than to redrill the doors.

Why do you feel the need to post like that?

They asked for advice not for you to take the pith.

    Resorted to trolling now Rodders??

No Pisces taking at all. ie, does anyone have a 60's kitchen, 50 years old?

It can't be pre metric unless it was that old, and it won';t be, over to the OP,

    It's not trolling.

All I've seen of you so far is that you're a patronising bully who doesn't like people who question you.
