can i sell my old boiler

Ideal boiler, around 10 to 15 years old, working well.... Changing mainly for the efficiency reasons. Would like to know, is it possible to sell the whole system (boiler, tanks.. only, not radiators!). Or is it possible to sell individual items.. Or is it better to let the firm changing boiler to take this away. (looks like most firms are not paying for old boiler.)

Thanks..

(did read a relevant thread but trying to find someone's latest experience)

It probably wouldn't be cost effective for someone to pay to have an old boiler installed. However, I hope to retain our removed radiators and copper so they can be taken to local scrap metal dealers, to help reduce the high cost of our system replacement.

Worth doing, but to set expectations; I got approx £130 for about 6 radiators, all the old copper piping and our old hot water tank. So justified hauling it to the scrappies... But not much in the context of a new system, sadly!

OP - I don't think anyone anywhere would buy a 10-15 year old boiler with the intention of re-installing it; apologies if that's not what you mean. :o Otherwise reckon taking it to the scrappie is your best bet...

If you're replacing a boiler that is inefficient, why do you think any one else would want to buy it? Would you buy a 15 year old inefficient boiler that has no guarantee and no warranty? The answer is no so why do you expect anyone else to buy it?

You could strip it down and sell the parts - somebody might be looking for a heat exchanger or the PCB for example to get their boiler going again. I wouldn't expect you'd get much for them though given the age. Whoever is looking for parts probably has a boiler just as old as yours.

Just to add to what others have said - it'll be worth something in scrap value. To get the best price, you'll need to sort it - e.g. separate out cast iron, steel, copper, brass; scrappies will pay more for a "clean" load than they will for a "mixed bag". You won't get a fortune, but every little helps.

Also the firm that's taking it as 'scrap' may have worked its value into the price they have quoted for you.. No Scrap to them might mean a higher price to you for the job - or that they leave such fittings in situ...

Also you will need a Photo ID and proof of address at the scrappie. Plus payment by cheque or bank transfer. No cash these days now.

I hope we can get that much. I was thinking on a much smaller scale.

Thanks for the reply, I'll probably let the boiler replacing firm to take them. Scrap value doesn't look worth for the work involved (separating out and transporting them to scrap).
