It does seem to be a clear cut case of not offering the terms they advertised. But I cannot see what they have to gain by doing this deliberately.

So either they have a better case than it appears (something that you missed when doing the online application?) or they will soon realise that they have made a mistake and accept your complaint.

On the website the terms and conditions for the card only says that the balance transfer fee can be up to 5% (with a minimum of £5).

In another document it states that "A handling fee may be charged for each balance transfer. Details of the handling fee are contained within the pre-contractual information". - do you have a copy of the pre-contractual information?

Perhaps it works like the Lloyds one - were they refund some of the fee later on?
  • Hi

You're right, they do have in their small print they can charge up to 5%. I still think they're deceptive in that they should send a letter clearly stating upfront you've not been accepted on the exact terms you thought you were applying for.

I applied for a credit card online with a company whose name escapes me, but they said instantly after the online application that they couldn't offer me the low rate I'd applied for and offered me something else so I moved on.

Santander actually send you a card in the post and bury their small print!

Are you being charged interest on the balance that you wish to transfer?
