Student Associate Scheme (SAS!)

Not sure if anyone is aware of this, but it's a good experience, looks good on the cv and doesn't pay too badly!
Basically you spend 15days in a secondary school or FE college, helping teachers in the classroom and trying to raise the profile of HE (hmmm), and then get £600 at the end of it! (Tax free I might add).
It's open to anyone on a relevant degree, though I think the possibilities are endless with subject choices to be honest! It's available to ayone, not just those who are looking at teacher training, and is really fun.
If your uni doesn't do it, you can go via another who does, e.g. at my training day at Middlesex, there were people from Herts, Kings, QMUL....you get the picture.
The 15 days can be done however you like, once a week, 3 weeks full time, so it's very flexible.
Any questions and I'll do my best to answer, just thought it might be worth a look to some of you!

I'm currently taking part in Student Hosts scheme run by my university, Nottingham Trent, where local schools visit the university and I take the pupils on tours and get them excited about university. I'm working three days a week for 6hrs and I'm earning £96.00. Its well worth taking part and it looks great on your CV.

Yeah, I did the SAS. It was knackering, but good fun and I met some good mates.
Have you done it yourself?0 -
Oops, I let this die a bit...sorry!
Yes I had just finished it when I posted this....in a "challenging" school in Edmonton no less!
Middlesex likes to put people in where we have "the greatest impact" LOL!
Was very "challenging" some days, but great fun, and has affirmed my suspicions that I want to teach the little scroats, thus trapping me in a lifetime cycle of despair!
The paperwork was a bit over the top, but I was quite lucky that OFSTED came when I was in, so I had lots of lesson plans to add to my folder. When I finished it took about 10 days for the money to come through, which helped my poor student account no end!...I like my coffee black, just like my metal!

thanks for the info. when does the scheme start, and do you have a choice as to which subject you choose to 'facilitate'?0

It runs at different times depending on what university you do the scheme with. And you generally choose a subject related to your degree.
I did SAS at a school in Accrington! :eek:0
