My OH has survived for 10 years with no anti virus on any Apple computers, so no it doesn't need one.0

Anti-virus to stop virus's probably don't need it as it's a very secure platform, however I'd still say you need an AV package as they also include anti-phishing, anti-adware, anti-spyware, protection against web based malware etc which can still cause issues. Sophos do a good one, AntiVirus for Mac..and its free for home users.0

The mac is just as full of holes as a Microsoft or Linux platform, it is just that with more users on windows the malware writers put most of their effort where they can have the biggest impact.
The question you need to ask is: does the user need an anti virus. It will be the same answer regardless of the platform.
If the user is not particularly computer savvy then yes get one.0 -
I have a Mac and use http://www.clamxav.com
I didn't use one up until a couple of years ago when there was a Mac malware outbreak. Security experts suggested then that this might be a good time to consider an AV solution.
Apple themselves have changed their own marketing on the issue. They used to claim that their products didn't get PC viruses. Now they simply refer to their technology keeping you safer.
