eGlobal Digital

Bought a Kindle from these people which cost £99. Arrived just before Xmas by DHL who asked for another £16 before handing it over. Didn't accept delivery and contacted eGlobal same day and asked for money back as I could get the kindle for £109 just about anywhere. Just received some gobbledygook from them the upshot of which is they want £30 to £40 for return cost. This is scandalous and an obvious con. Advertise £10 cheaper than anyone else then add your profit margin at the door with an option to pay them £30/£40 for returning the item. Anyone else had experience with them and how did it pan out?

This company send stuff from Hong Kong and that fact is not really obvious. I was going to give you hard time for not checking but unless I was forewarned by your post I doubt I would have found it.

You are being charged VAT and duty by HMRC on item that is why they wanted to charge you upon delivery.

So as they are in fact not UK based (you might want to check that in more detail) then you will not be covered under DSR. How did you pay? If PayPal then that should be relatively straightforward to claim back since you rejected delivery and they can't show delivery. Otherwise you will need to talk to your bank.

Some of the others should offer you a bit more info on how to deal with the bank.

Make a mental note to yourself to thoroughly check companies you haven't dealt with before as this is becoming more prevalent and if the price is not 30% or more cheaper then you are better buying in the UK.
  • I bought a phone from them on 7/11/2013. A few weeks ago the screen display started to flicker with parallel lines going across the bottom of the display. I reported this to them and they asked me to return the phone for repair under warranty. Before sending it back to them I checked with a local repair shop and they advised me to return it as the phone was in good condition and there was no sign of my having damaged the phone. I returned the phone and they acknowledged safe receipt on 14/2/14. They then told me that according to their technician that the damage on the LCD monitor was not caused by a manufacture defect. A repair cost of AUD 180 was quoted. I then sent 3 further messages (all ignored) referring to my legal rights under S75 Consumer Credit act/ the fact that a local shop have examined it and found no user damage and also asking them to return it without repairing it. When they quoted £20 to return the phone I caved in and agreed to their figure of 200 AUD which would cover the repair and return postage. The next day they sent a Paypal request for £200 and an apology! I then replied refusing to pay this amount as it was almost double what had been agreed. That was yesterday and I have not received a reply. My concern is that they made a mistake with the currency, quoting £200 AUD when they meant £200 (more than the phone cost of £193.99). Now they have repaired the phone and will hold onto it until I pay £200. This company replies promptly to my messages when I say yes, and ignores my other messages. Please can anyone advise me? Thank you

That would make me suspicious from the start. All this grief to possibly save a tenner.

It was certainly damned hard to spot when I purchased from them last autumn! They have changed their T&Cs several times too. Until December they claimed that IF you incurred customs charges then they would refund you. I also have confirmation of this from screen shots and e-mails of 'live-chat'. They were obviously trying to fly under the customs radar as the majority of stuff was being sent snail-mail and the items were described as 'warranty repair', and with a very low value. My brand new Nikon camera was described in this way and its value was stated as £36 - a fraction of its retail value. This all changed mid-December when they changed their T&Cs to say that customs charges were payable by the buyer. They e-mailed me as a 'valued customer' to let me know about this change, along with a discount code which has remained unused as I was lucky that I actually received my goods and without the hassle of finding out whether they would honour their promise to refund customs charges.

I just clicked on their "contact us" button and it gives their address in Hong Kong.

It might do now, but several months ago they had a London phone number - which was answered by 'customer service agents' who were British. This number was shown clearly at the top of their homepage. Any mention of Hong Kong was, then, mired in the labyrinth of their T&Cs.

What you are seeing now is not what the buyer would have seen before Christmas.
