Ikea kitchen with B&Q worktops?

  • Another thing that is putting me off the ikea worktops is the laminate ones only seem to join via a aluminium cover strip. They don't seem to do a colour matched worktop colour fill whereas b&q do. I would want the w/top with mitre joins. Does anyone know if this is possible with the ikea laminates? or do you have to go for the wooden tops to have the mitre joins.

any good carpenter should be able to do a proper mitre joint for you, even with the IKEA laminated ones. depending on what colour worktop you choose, but I should think you can get an almost matching sealent off the shelf somewhere?

I do recommend the solid wood worktop from IKEA though, really good value. love the look and feel of it. and unless you have a massive kitchen, keeping it looking good is not that tedious.

Ikea do custom made tops too, with the type of joint you want.
Their standard tops, as said above, could also be joined like that by someone with the right tools.

We have beech block tops in our own kitchen, not Ikea as they predate Ikea being in UK, and we have used the Ikea similar ones in other areas. They are good value, although not as good quality as our older ones. If you do get wood, I would suggest treating them with Danish or Rustic Oil, much better than the stuff Ikea sell.

A joiner with the right skills will be able to do a mitre worktop without usiong colour fill.

Anyone saying that they will fit you the worktops and need some colourfill is unlikely to be a professional and I would be wary of using them.

THe wooden worktops are lovely in Ikea but werent' long enough for us as we have rather long runs and didn't fancy joining the worktops together so we bought long (410 cm) deep (90cm) breakfasts and our fitter chopped them to the correct depth and brought the base units forward to deal with the lack of service void and wonky walls. We found http://www.worktops.uk.com/ very helpful and the prices were much better than B&Q etc.

Thats the reason I went to B&Q, if I remember Ikeas go up to 2.46 meters & I ordered the 3.6 meter ones from B&Q.
But I did like the Ikea black one (its neither shiny nor matt, its like a mid sheen), I had it in my last kitchen in my last home.
Ikea do make them to order, but for this house we moved in & the kitchen was soooo bad we had to get the kitchen fitter in pronto & didn't have time to wait for the special order.

Oh & the fact that Ikea worktops don't have upstands & B&Qs do & I wanted upstands in this kitchen.
