1 &1 Website Help

Hi All

Hoping you can help. I had a 1&1 website that i set up for my wedding but no longer need the account. The renewel came up just before Xmas but as it was a busy time i didnt pick up my email about the renewal until the new year.

So i requested for the account to be terminated as i no longer needed the site. They had tried to charge my card but because it had expired they couldn't charge my account. Not that i wanted them to anyway! So now i dont need the account but they have said i have got to pay for the account up until the next renewal just before Xmas 2014.

I have requested the cancellation but i want to cancel it now and not at Xmas 2014. I dont want to be stuck paying this for the next year when i dont need it.

Does anyone have any advice they can give

Thanks

If the accoutn was up for renewal and they couldn't take the payment then as far as i'm aware the contract between yourself and 1 and 1 isn't valid.

I had 1 and 1 try and charge my card and i claimed it via chargeback. Never requested a cancellation either.
Am i right in thinking this was for hosting ?
  • Yes it was for hosting my website. I did everything through them. But don't need the account now.

Are they allowed to automatically renew and charge my car (unsuccessfully) I don't want them chasing me for the money and getting a debt collection company in to do it.

I requested cancellation they accepted but cant do it til next renewal date meaning they are charging me for the year when i dont want it

Sorry but that is completely wrong. Cancellation of payment method is NOT cancellation of contract. If you didn't remove the auto-renew and the contract renewed then you are liable for the cost - they have up to 6 years to chase you for the payment. This is a fairly common question, either here or in the Consumer Rights board.

Have you been in to your account and made sure auto-renew is turned OFF? (Don't rely on them doing it - make sure YOU do it and keep timestamped evidence of having done so).
