Hi there,
I was thinking about installing infrared heating in my property as I have read a lot of information and comments that this type of heating can save up to 50% on energy costs. Is infrared heating that cost effective? Any experience, thoughts or advices would be much appreciated.

Does that information come exclusively from the people who sell infrared heating?
The first point to realise is that each 1 kilowatt-hour of electricity used will deliver 1 kilowatt-hour of heat to your room, regardless of what type of heater you use. Claims that electric heaters are "super efficient" are meaningless. They all deliver the same amount of heat per kilowatt-hour used.
Infrared heaters are highly directional. So if you point the heater at yourself, you will be toasty warm, even if the rest of the room remains freezing cold. This may be good or bad for you, depending on what sort of heating you require. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Might just be spam..... just a wild stab in the dark....0

Most of the companies who sell infrared heating products claim that using infrared you can save up 50% on heating bills to compare with traditional night storage heaters.
I think that if I install infrared heating panels on the ceiling that would be the most effective way to heat the whole area..0 -
I use Infa red lamps for my dogs and other animals sometimes. One of the reasons they are great for that purpose only is that the dogs who like to be hot can bask in the heat, while the ones who like to be cold can be right out of the heat. The 'room' never seems to warm up under them, even if on twenty four seven. I cannot imagine they are that great for general heating?0

I have read somewhere that infrared heating boards or thermo floor heating boards are the best option for animals as they are low wattage and can be used as animal beds.
I believe that the room is not very warm because infrared heats objects and the air stays fresh and cool. That is why I am trying to get as much feedback about infrared heating as possible if it is worth installing it at home.0 -
as an all over solution - never in a million years, leccy heating costs a bomb next to gas, whichever leccy heater you use - no such thing as efficient
however when considering multifloor house that's ok to live in but not shower in , putting in a localised IR heater for bathroom, on what, 15 mins a day if that...... then it makes sense.
Just my 2p's worth - its all about overall saving - in my example above I save central heating the whole house , or, in recent weeks, turning it up!!0 -

!I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
The idea that infra red heating saves money is a SCAM. There are no electrical heating systems approved by the Energy Savings Trust. If you see any company advertising that their infra red heaters will save money then do report them to Trading Standards. Sometimes these companies use the Energy Savings Trust logo illegally.I am the Cat who walks alone0

Why are all of Will.T.'s posts about how brilliant infra red heating is?I have read somewhere that infrared heating boards or thermo floor heating boards are the best option for animals as they are low wattage and can be used as animal beds.
