How do I find out an old, closed Mint credit card account number?

Hello,
I'm in the process of claiming back PPI with old credit cards I had. I've hit a stumbling block with my Mint card, who are now owned by RBS. I've written to RBS with my address and employment details at the time, along with my date of birth, the rough balance and dates the account was active. They;ve written back to me explaining they can;t find my details without the card number, which I don't have!
Could anyone advise on how I'd go about getting these details? Am I right in thinking I have to send a cheque for x amount, to somebody?
Many thanks

How long ago did you close the account? If less than 6 years then it should still be visible on your credit record. Not sure it that would allow you to obtain the account number but it would certainly allow you to prove you had an account.0
