Removal of Default Notices

Good Afternoon,
In December I finished paying of my Debt Management Plan.
Today they have called me and confirmed everything is all paid.
They said to contact the companies where necessary and see whether they can remove the defaults notices. I have 5 accounts that have defaults on them.
Is this worth doing?
If so, is there anything in particular I need to say in my letter?
Thanks

Default notices are removed after 6 years, whether or not the Default has been paid.
The owner of the account is not legally obliged to remove a default once it has been settled, they just mark them as paid/settled.
The best way to get them removed is to request it as a condition of repayment, however it sounds like you are too late to do this?0 -
Just to echo the earlier answer. Your defaults won't be removed unless they are 6 years old, regardless of if your DMP is completed or not.
Congratulation on being debt free though! :money:Unsecured debt 2008 c £45,000
Current unsecured debt February 2016 £1,734.85

They are less than that.
They are only from a few years.
I just wondered why the management plan suggested that then?0 -
Thank you all0

Congrats!
I've been there, though a DMP and the relief at the end was great.
Suppose it wouldn't harm if you could try contacting your ex-creditors with the settled defaulted accounts and ask if the account could be deleted, but don't get your hopes up!
Besides, if even 1 default remains on file it is still tarred.
Best bet to sit out the next few years until the 6 year from default passes, live off salary, try and save. I did this and it transformed my approach to money.
Another thing - check for Arrangement to Pay markers - these stay on file for 6 years after the last payment!
If any of these are on file, without default, try and get a retrospective default marker applied, or the account removed.
Good luck!0 -
Your accounts should really have been defaulted within 6 months of the start of your DMP.
If not, complain to try and get them changed.:beer:0
