If you a director and shareholder in excess of 25% shares then you may well find that is a good enough reason. If you hold little or no shares then you are just an employee like others.

Thanks dunstonh - I had a 33% stake in the company, so I may progress it further

One last question if I may...

I has my CPP mis-selling letter a few months ago - if RBS have now rejected my claim, does this mean my claim against card protection (which is obviously mentioned on my statements and in their covering letter) through CPP also done and dusted?

An item on this site recently by Amy Ellis reads "
This won't be judged on a case-by-case basis, meaning you won't need to provide stacks of paperwork to prove you were mis-sold to. If you complain, you'll get your money back. It's that simple."

I'm even more confused than normal!

Should be completely unrelated. Two different insurance policies, (mis) sold at different times by different people.
  • So if I want to "amend" my reason for claiming from "didn;t know about it" to "I was a company director and therefore would not have been entitled to any payouts", should I refer back to the company (RBS) or proceed by contacting the Ombudsman?

You can only complain once about the insurance, you can't keep returning with other reasons. However, in your case I would ask the Bank to consider what you believe is a strong reason to uphold your original complaint before referring it to the Ombudsman.

A big thanks to everyone who helped me on this thread

I went back to RBS to query that I was a company director when they had said I was "employed". Received a letter today amending their decision from nothing to approx £6000

This forum is invaluable and made so by the kind people who take time out of their days to help/advise people like me

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
