tv adapter for netflix/lovefilm/iplayer

hello

Not sure if this is in the right place .. apologies if I not.

I have a normal freeview telly.. I'd like to try neflix, lovefilm etc on there free trials before picking which to stay with.

I know i need to buy a 'smartbox/adapter' thing so i can watch on telly without having to connect up laptop but am struggling with all the info so I am hoping someone can advise me please.

is there one box that will receive netflix and lovefilm along with iplayer etc..?

please can someone recommend a make to look for? I've been reading the reviews on amazon but there is a lot of contradiction. I have to be able to buy it online as mostly housebound so getting to shops can be a challenge.

Ideally i need something pretty simple to use.

Help and advise very much appreciated

thanks in advance

The only box i can find that does all that is:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BIEFR0U/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=home-theater

It's a bluray player, wifi, with access to iplayer, NetFlix and LoveFilm

You'll find a lot of devices don't support LoveFilm. It gets lots of good reviews. And it's a bluray player!

Does your TV have HDMI in?

I bought an android TV dongle a good few months back, works great with iplayer and netflix (not tried lovefilm, but if there is an app i presume it will work) Was about £30. There are newer and better ones out there now.

Mine is similar in spec to this one

but you might find better/cheaper ones on ebay.

Edit - don't think there is an android lovefilm app.

thank you for looking for me

yes we have hdmi as use it to run laptop

that's a fair bit more than i was hoping to pay.. i guess if i want everything on it that is the price bracket

will look at the dongle link .. do they work the same as a box or do you have to program them.. save what you want to watch onto it from laptop then plug in etc?

i am very happy with netflix at the moment so maybe i don't need love film possibilities.
  • If you don't want lovefilm, you could look at a Roku box, or a WD TV Live Media Player.

Both are £50 - £70 depending on the model you want. There's a WD model for only £33, but it doesn't get the best of reviews.

Something called a Sony Playstation 3 will do BluRay, LoveFilm, Netflix, iPlayer, ITV Player and so much more. WiFi incuded of course. Buy they cheapo current 'super slim' or find the older 'slim', maybe second hand. The original is a bit too noisy in my opinion.
You don't have to use the controller BTW, you can get a remote control for £18 or less.

If you go down the Ps£ route, you can change the DNS settings to redirect through the US-based GoogleDNS and watch Netflix & Lovefilm stuff only available in the States (Netflix have a large range of HD movies that are only available to US subscribers.

The Sony Bluray players don't usually have 4OD or ITVPlayer built in due to licensing constraints.

Crikey Patman.. that is a bit beyond me .. but thank you.

I am nervous buying used stuff of ebay and the PS3 look pricey

Think we might stick with the chrome book for netflix and then the old laptop for lovefilm until we decide exactly which one to stick with so we aren't wasting money.

Thank you everybody.. i do appreciate your help and advice.. always a bit nervous joining a new forum.
