19 years ago was 10 years prior to regulation. Most mortgage advisers did not become regulated until Jan 2005. MPPI has the lowest complaint success rate of any type of PPI (majority are rejected). Plus, you dont even know if he was paying it. That would indicate that you dont have any grounds for complaint either (and as he is not here, you cannot make allegations of what was said even if he had it). Documentation is likely to be long gone and as MPPI is a standalone product that is paid by direct debit and doesnt appear on the mortgage itself or the mortgage paperwork, the odds of finding if he was paying any is remote let alone there actually being a successful complaint.

However, you can look at his bank statements to see if a payment is going out for MPPI or the executor of the estate 19 years ago can write to every general insurance company asking if there was an MPPI policy.

That seems like a lot of work with likely very little reward...

If you took on his mortgage, ring the provider & ask.

In that period, most mortgages were arranged by broker/advisers. The bank wouldn't know those. Also, as mentioned, the bank may not even know if it sold PPI itself as most have MPPI as a standalone plan. For most, it would not appear on any mortgage documents.

The mortgage would not have been taken on by the OP. It would have been a brand new application and have nothing to do with the father. Only the executor of the estate or administrator has access to the father's details.
