Free Tree removal?

Hi
I have 2 very tall eucalyptus trees in our garden and with all these navy winds one of them is on its way out, the roots are popping out of the ground and u can see the soil popping out.....
I don't really have the money to pay £200 or more (which is what a friend said) I was told that some councils can remove these for free, is that right? I am just a bit worried that it may fall and damage our place and the neighbours..... ;/
Thanks
Much appreciated

I'd phone the local council and enquire.
Failing that you might be able to find someone locally on gumtree that's looking for firewood and prepared to cut it themselves, but if they are tall they'd need special equipment and may not want to do it for free.0 -
Eucalyptus isn't the most friendly wood to burn either, heady fumes and little body wood!
If you are a private owner, I doubt the council will remove them for free. They may well remove them if they are aware they are a danger, but I imagine they'd chase for the costs, and getting it done privately would probably be cheaper anyway. After all, why should the council - effectively the rest of us - pay for your tree removal?
There are some tree fellers that will remove trees for the wood they gain, and I have no idea if eucalyptus would be attractive to them - I doubt it, sadly. Yew and oak certainly are, and I have a neighbour who is hoping a sycamore will be (which I doubt). You could ask.... but at the moment I suspect they'll have more paid work than they can manage.
If one of your trees is obviously a hazard and you do nothing, your insurance will not fully cover the costs of damage if it lands on your house. You are probably not fully covered if it damages next door.0 -
We were charged £40 per large tree 18 Months ago. There are more questions than answers :shhh: :silenced:WARNING ! May go silent for unfriendly repliesPlease excuse me Spell it MOST times:A UK Resident :A0

Unlikely it would be for free. We recently had a large/tall eucalyptus removed and roots ground plus general garden clearance having moved into a property which had been empty since February. It cost around £350 which for 4 hours work wasn't bad.

Where do you live?
I'll come and do it if you're local.0
